He has participated in property transactions in excess of $300 million including many high profile transactions in Chicago such as the sale of the largest multifamily property in Chicago’s Lincoln Park area in 2001—a $28.5 million, 348-unit complex. He is also the Director for Sperry Van Ness' Chicago Accelerated Marketing team, specializing in the auction of real property assets. Mr. Caplan has completed leasing transactions with some of the retail sectors’ top companies including 7-11, Dollar General, Subway, Chase, Charter One Bank, and Edward Jones to name a few. He also has served as the development sales manager for both a 126-unit, $38 million, newly constructed residential condominium project in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood, as well as for a 25-unit condominium conversion in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood. Awards and Recognitions include being named as Rookie of the Year for Inland Real Estate Sales in 2000, a top producer at Sheldon Good & Company for six years, and being amongst the top ten percent nationally of all 900+ Sperry Van Ness advisors in gross commission volume for 2009 & 2010. Mr. Caplan is a longtime member of the International Council of Shopping Centers(ICSC). He has served for many years on the Chicago Association of Realtors(CAR) “Commercial Forum” committee, of which he was the 2006 Committee Chair and has also been named to the prestigious Board of Directors of the 14,000 member organization. Additionally, Mr. Caplan has been elected to the Board of Directors of the over 1 million member National Association of Realtors (NAR). He is active in several Chicago neighborhood groups including Uptown United / Upcorp(Uptown Community Development Corporation) and EUBA(Edgewater Uptown Builders Association). He is also a contributor to charities such as the American Red Cross, and is Streetwise, whose building Caplan brokered and sold in August 2005 at 1331 South Michigan Ave. Caplan earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from New York University and a Master of Business Administration in Real Estate and Finance from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.
