Biography
|
Wayne Caplan is a Director for Sperry Van Ness, LLC, specializing in the sale and leasing of retail, office, investment and development properties. He has participated in commercial property transactions in excess of $400 million including many high profile transactions in Chicago such as the sale of one of the largest multifamily properties in Chicago’s Lincoln Park area—a $28.5 million, 348-unit complex. He is a member of SVN's national Asset Recovery Team (SVN ART) specializing in the disposition and re-positioning of distressed commercial real estate assets.
Wayne's clients range from small individual investors to several large regional and national lending institutions, as well as REITs, life insurance companies, and national mixed-use developers. Among his experience, he has completed leasing transactions with some of the retail sectors’ top companies including 7-11, Dollar General, Subway, Chase, Charter One Bank, and Edward Jones to name a few. He also has served as the development sales manager for several large residential developments, including a 126-unit ground up condo project in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood.
Awards and Recognitions include being named as Rookie of the Year for Inland Real Estate Sales in 2000, a top producer at Sheldon Good & Company for six years, and being amongst the top ten percent nationally of all 900+ Sperry Van Ness advisors in gross commission volume for the past three years. Active in advocacy for the commercial real estate industry, Wayne has also been appointed as the National Director of Regulatory Affairs for SVN.
Mr. Caplan is a longtime member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He has served for many years on the Chicago Association of Realtors (CAR) “Commercial Forum” committee, of which he was the 2006 Committee Chair and has served on the prestigious Board of Directors of the 11,000+ member organization since 2008. Wayne was recently appointed to the Commercial Committee for the Illinois Association of Realtors (IAR) and is involved with the over 1 million member National Association of Realtors (NAR), having served as a member of its board of directors for the past two years, and on both it's Commercial and Commercial Legislative & Regulatory Committees. He is active in several Chicago neighborhood groups including Uptown United and EUBA(Edgewater Uptown Builders Association). Wayne is a contributor to charities such as the American Red Cross, and Streetwise, whose former headquarters building in Chicago's South Loop Caplan brokered and sold in August 200.
Mr. Caplan has earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from New York University and a Master of Business Administration in Real Estate and Finance from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He lives in Wilmette, IL with his wife and two young sons.
